The new municipal command & control center

The project:

TriTech provided tailor-made work stations for the new municipal command and control center. In the server room, TriTech supplied and integrated INROW air conditioning and technical furniture.

The solution:

The new facility serves both as command and control center for the safe city network with its 1000 surveillance cameras; and as a call center for residents' inquiries, complaints and distress calls. Receiving on average 1800 to 2000 calls a day, the operators delegate cases to the relevant municipal agencies and follow up until the case is closed. In emergency situations, the center must assume crisis management as well.
This diversity of functions and tasks translates into a very busy environment where operators handle multiple information and communication channels such as video, phone calls, e-mails, radio and text messages. In addition, direct contact with municipal residents demands consistent friendliness and patience.
Understanding the intensity of operators' work days (and nights), the planning committee strongly emphasized the need for an esthetic, ergonomic and user-friendly space with optimal work conditions. Saifor's VDS consoles were the obvious choice because of their modern, minimalistic design which is perfectly aligned to the digital reality of today's control centers.

Optical demarcation (dark triangle) between operators' work spaces

The modular series offered countless options for customization. TriTech worked hand in hand with the planning committee to design work stations that provided each operator with a personal space that promotes the ability to work as undisturbed as possible while supporting comfortable access to all sources of information. The starting point was the generous width and depth of the desk, with plenty of leg space as well as sufficient distance between the operators and the screens. With each console accommodating two operators, a black triangle was inserted into the desk surface to optically mark each operator's own space.

A primary consideration was to hide potential sources of distraction and keep the space as neat as possible. TriTech achieved this by integrating the PC cabinet into the consoles' modesty panels. Covered by an esthetic, easily removable panel with ventilation grid, technical equipment is out of sight but easily accessible for maintenance.

Next, the drawer unit was customized with two compartments: one drawer for documentation and a larger compartment where operators can stow away their bags and other personal belongings.
